Kapama is one of South Africa’s largest privately owned game reserves - perfectly positioned in the Limpopo province safari area.
Activities included:
Two daily game drives are part of the fully inclusive tariff and your skilled ranger and tracker do their best to find the animals of Africa for you to admire. Get some African soil under your feet with a bush walk after breakfast. Explore the environment with your ranger, learn about curative properties of plants and identify animals from their footprints and dung. Large game is avoided when on foot but animals can often be seen from a safe distance.
Additional activities at an extra cost:
Elephant Back Safari:
This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity here in Kapama Game Reserve to ride on the back of an African elephant. Meet the herd in the early morning or late afternoon and learn just how to get onto the back of an elephant and move to its rhythm as they walk through the bush. R1,050.00 per person including return transfer to your Kapama lodge subject to availability.
Hot air balloon:
The giant candy-striped balloons lift off at first light and drift at the mercy of the wind for about an hour. This usually means that you pass right over Kapama Game Reserve and the skill of the balloon pilot is such that you can skim the top of the trees and spot the wild animals below. The hot air balloon landing can be bumpy, so hold on tight then celebrate with a glass of bubbly. This memorable experience is highly recommended. R2,100.00 per person (Adult).
Romantic Sleepout in Kapama Game Reserve:
Sleeping out under the African moon on the Kapama Romance Platform could be one of the most memorable nights of your life! Arrive at the double-story wooden platform, to a vision of billowing white mosquito netting surrounding a giant bed of white linen. It will take your breath away. This is your most private night in the bush; it is just you and the African animals in the wilderness. You are quite safe, as the platform and luxury bathroom underneath (complete with flush toilet, rose-head shower and his ‘n hers basins) are animal-proof. You are nevertheless, supplied with a radio and cellphone for your peace of mind. Arrive before sunset and drink champagne with your picnic dinner, or come after your lodge dinner and witness an African bush fairytale, with lanterns glowing in the darkness. Relax and absorb the sights and sounds of wild Africa before sinking into a slumber, punctuated by the roar of a lion. As dawn breaks you can call your ranger on the radio or set an appointed time in advance. R2,000 Per couple additional to lodge accommodation rate. (Including private meal and bottle wine or sparkling wine).
Wellness Centre:
The Kapama Wellness centre will be complete by April 2008. This fully dedicated facility will stand alone as a good reason to come to Kapama, and the game drives and encounters with Africa’s big game will be the added bonus. A 17-meter heated lap pool in the bush will be a first in the area and the fully equipped gym allows exercisers to maintain their fitness. Around the pool are treatment and relaxation rooms offering a range of therapies that reads like a gourmet menu. Until this facility is ready, Kapama River Lodge offers a range of body and skin treatments from their current facility.
Kapama has three styles of safari accommodation, each creating a distinctly different safari experience: Kapama Lodge, River Lodge and Buffalo Camp.
Kapama Lodge - Kapama Private Game Reserve, South Africa
Kapama Lodge - a luxurious traditional safari lodge with air-conditioned thatched chalets positioned around a lake fringed with reeds. Calm atmosphere, good dining and friendly staff. Sweeping views across a tranquil lake create a sentiment of feel-good as soon as you arrive at 5-star Kapama Lodge. Rambling natural growth at the water’s edge contrasts with tended gardens and lawns nibbled by wandering nyala antelope. Thatched viewing decks overlooking the water ensure instant relaxation here at Kapama Lodge. Set along stone pathways among leopard orchids, aloes, and fever trees are Kapama Lodge’s twenty thatched chalets. The two honeymoon suites at the water’s edge offer a few extras, but all bedrooms have the ability to make you gasp as you walk in; fresh white bedding plump with cushions is surrounded by four great swathes of mosquito netting creating a fairy-tale four-poster effect. The rooms are spacious, air-conditioned and decorated to reflect the rich textures and colours of Africa. When the African sun rises to full strength after a morning of Big 5 game driving, it is time to jump into the Kapama Lodge swimming pool or sit on the tea deck with an ice-cold drink. Cocktails are served here on balmy evenings, while winter evenings are best spent in the library lounge around the log fire. A team of chefs create an array of fine food served in Kapama Lodge main dining room, or in the traditional circular outdoor boma lit by lanterns, or at a secluded bush venue under a starry African sky. All these comforts mean nothing without the genuine smiling faces of Kapama Lodge staff. From the broadly smiling waiters to the expert rangers and trackers, it is they that make a good safari vacation into a great African holiday.

Kapama Buffalo Camp - Kapama Private Game Reserve, South Africa
Kapama Buffalo Camp - timeless tented safari style for only 16 guests, with en-suite rooms perched on platforms high above the riverbed and connected to each other by wooden walkways. This is a favourite because of its intimate rustic feel and al-fresco dinners around the open fire. Reminiscent of a traditional African safari camp, Kapama Buffalo Camp offers a unique and intimate experience in the African bush. It is ideal for discovering big game Africa in true safari tented style without compromising on comfort. Eight luxury canvas tents, each sleeping two, are set on wooden decks built on stilts over a steep-sided riverbank. Wooden walkways interconnect the rooms, which are all in the upper reaches of tall riverine trees. The river below rarely flows and antelopes are seen daily walking along the sandy riverbed. Each tented room has all the usual comforts of electricity, en-suite bathroom, safe, writing table, wardrobe, suitcase stand and tea/coffee facilities. The communal areas of Buffalo Camp are on the riverbank, where gardens of succulent aloes and euphorbia are tended around the thatched bar, dining room, pool terrace and campfire. But the thick African bush is just a glance away, inhabited by animals like lion, hyena and jackal whose calls can be heard in the dead of night. Lanterns, rather than electric lights, glow at night under the trees, creating a special intimate ambience particular to Buffalo Camp. With a maximum of 16 guests at Buffalo Camp, special attention is paid to personal service and the staff become like friends. Kapama Buffalo Camp is a truly authentic way to experience the African bush.
