Our combination safaris offer guests the best of both worlds. From staying inside and experiencing the wildlife of the Kruger National Park to spending a night or two at a private lodge and all the comforts and fantastic wildlife sightings that accompany this experience.
One of Africa’s most famous national parks, there are 147 mammal species found in Kruger, more than any other wildlife reserve in Africa! Of these the Big 5 (lion, leopard, rhino, buffalo and elephant) are of course included.
On this safari we include open vehicle drives and a sunset drive. This safari gives you an amazing African wildlife experience.
Our combination safaris are very popular, balancing the activities on offer, with rest and relaxation, just perfectly.

ITINERARY
B = Breakfast L = Lunch D = Dinner
DAY 1: GAUTENG TO KRUGER PARK – D
We normally leave Johannesburg between 06:00 and 07:00 to allow for various collection points. Our route takes us through the wide open spaces of the Highveld, down the escarpment and through the scenic Lowveld area. We stop for lunch en-route (own expense) and reach the Kruger National Park in the afternoon.
After we have settled into our accommodations, we head out on our first game drive! We conduct all our game drives in specially adapted 4×4 open game drive vehicles to allow our guests the best possible vantage point. On our return, we have some time to visit the Park’s shop, go for a walk and just familiarise ourselves with our surroundings.
Dinner is a three course meal, served al fresco (weather permitting) at our camp.
DAYS 2 & 3: A FULL DAY IN THE PARK – BD
We rise early and depart on an early morning drive in the hope of finding some of the nocturnal and diurnal animals. This is also the most active time for most predators, both big and small. With the sun slowly climbing higher above the savannah, we experience all that the park has to offer, including the well-known Big 5 and the incredible wealth of flora, birds and smaller mammals that make the Kruger Park unique.
On returning to camp, breakfast/brunch will be ready at our camp. You then have time to enjoy a swim, catch up on some sleep, visit the park shop which includes African curios, general food items and drinks, take a walk around the camp or simply relax. Plus, the Kruger is a bird watcher’s paradise! Be sure to bring along your binoculars.
In the afternoon, we will head out once more in our own open game drive vehicle. By now you will already have seen quite a lot and we will go in search of the ones that have eluded us thus far!
We share safari stories at the camp fire under the stars after a scrumptious dinner served at our camp.
DAY 3: SWAZILAND TO HLUHLUWE-IMFOLOZI GAME RESERVE – BD
Today, we enjoy a later start! After breakfast, we depart for KwaZulu Natal through ever-changing landscapes, and stop for lunch en-route (own expense) to the Hilltop Camp at Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Game Reserve. It’s actually been made famous for its breeding program of both black and white rhino, something that brought these magnificent creatures back from the brink of extinction!
We then enjoy an afternoon game drive, searching for wildlife in our closed vehicle (with our guide). After this, we’ll enjoy a scrumptious dinner at our camp
DAY 4: KRUGER PARK TO PRIVATE GAME RESERVE – BLD
After an early wake-up call, we head to one of the world renowned Private Game Reserves adjacent to Kruger in our closed, air conditioned tour vehicle. Remember, you will receive a packed breakfast before you go. We arrive in time for lunch and have some time to freshen up before departing on your afternoon game drive in one of the lodge’s open game drive vehicles. This drive generally takes about 4 hours and tends to extend into the early evening. The Private Reserves are particularly famous for its close sightings of predators. Although we cannot guarantee these sightings, your chances of seeing these magnificent animals are very good!
Dinner is served under the stars (weather permitting). The day ends with discussions around the open fire about what you saw today and the plans for tomorrow.
Please Note
If you choose to do the Panorama Route, you forfeit your morning drive in the Kruger National Park. Unfortunately there is not enough time to enjoy both activities.
DAYS 5 & 6: A FULL DAY IN A PRIVATE GAME RESERVE – BLD
Private Lodges offer two game drives per day, during which your experienced game ranger will share their extensive knowledge and love for the African bush with you. Due to a carefully planned and managed habituation process, animals and birds in the reserve have become used to having the game drive vehicles in close proximity, without feeling threatened. This allows us to get really close to them and forms part of the appeal of Private Game Reserves!
After breakfast guests are welcome to join the morning walk. The rest of the day is spent at leisure, relaxing in your room or at the pool. Lunch is served around 14:00.
Mealtimes are a sociable affair, with dinner served under the stars (weather permitting) and only the freshest produce used.
DAY 7: PRIVATE RESERVE TO JOHANNESBURG – B
An early wake-up call and coffee signals the start of your last safari of this journey. One last opportunity to experience the magic that only the African Bush can offer!
Upon your return breakfast is served. Directly after breakfast we begin our journey back to Johannesburg. We stop en-route for lunch (own expense). The drive back to Johannesburg takes at least 6 hours and guests are advised to sleep over in Johannesburg on this night.
The Panorama Route (optional)
We offer an optional excursion to visit select attractions along the Panorama Route in all our Safaris of 3 days or longer. We visit attractions such as the Blyde River Canyon, Three Rondavels, Lisbon Falls and God’s Window. This excursion is available free of charge and will replace your morning game drive. It will be co-ordinated by our staff while you are on safari with us. (Kindly note that this excursion is only available on the day that you leave our camp for the Private Lodge due to time constraints.)

It is important to note that this is not a private safari and more than likely there will be other guests joining you on the game drive vehicles, air-conditioned mini bus transfer vehicles as well as in the dining facility.
Although we welcome children on our safaris, we reserve the right not to allow younger children on our normal game drives in the Kruger Park. This will be entirely up to the guide’s discretion and will be in order to ensure a pleasurable game drive for all our guests (including the parents). Should this be the case, a bush bumble (kiddies game drive) will be conducted after the normal game drive, especially for the kids. We do not offer babysitting services and as such one of the parents will have to stay behind to watch the children. Private Kruger Park game drives for families can be arranged at an extra charge. Each of the Private Reserve lodges has their own rules regarding children on game drives and the availability and cost of babysitters. This information is available on request.
Guests flying out of OR Tambo Airport on the last day are reminded to not book any flights earlier than 19:00 (domestic) or 20:00 (international) in order to give us enough time to get you to the airport. We recommend that you rather stay over in Johannesburg if possible. Since we cannot guarantee our arrival time in Johannesburg on the last day we will not be held responsible for re-imbursements of flight tickets, should we arrive later than expected. Private transfers for guests with early flights can be arranged in advance at an extra charge.
